Ross Johnson B.Bus, LLB
Head of Commercial Law Section
Ross joined Swanwick Murray Roche in 1987 with previous experience in financial accounting with the Australian Government and the Capricornia Electricity Board. With both accounting and legal qualifications and experience in the public and private sectors, Ross offers his clients significant insight and a valuable blend of skills and experience.
Ross was admitted as a solicitor of the Supreme Court of Queensland in March 1989 and is a solicitor of the High Court of Australia.
Ross practises in a range of commercial fields including construction, company law, contract law, and property, with a particular focus on the requirements of the construction industry and local government.
Ross works with a relatively small number of institutional and industrial clients including:
- Rockhampton City Council;
- Fitzroy Shire Council;
- Woorabinda Aboriginal Council;
- Gladstone-Calliope Aerodrome Board;
- Central Queensland University;
- JM Kelly Group; and
- Walz Construction,
ensuring that they receive efficient and effective legal services which meet their operational requirements.
Ross has worked closely with several local government authorities in relation to significant commercial undertakings, including:
- Rockhampton City Council, in the negotiation of property transactions, management of commercial enterprises, town planning advice and approvals;
- Fitzroy River Water, in negotiating and drafting water supply agreements (irrigation, commercial and between councils) and infrastructure projects;
- Gladstone Calliope Aerodrome Board, in the negotiation and drafting of terminal facility licensing agreements and in commercial disputes related to the airline industry;
- Woorabinda Aboriginal Council, in commercial and property transactions.
In doing so, Ross has shown that he has a clear understanding of the legal issues and operational requirements affecting commercial and local government clients and has demonstrated his commitment to the delivery of innovative and effective solutions.
Ross has also assisted several local businesses in negotiations for the provision of ground support to overseas military forces conducting exercises in the region (including transport, catering and equipment maintenance).
